The BBC's popular house history series A House Through Time is returning on Thursday 13 August 2026 with a new series looking at the history of a house in Edinburgh.
What is A House Through Time?
A House Through Time is a documentary television series made for BBC Two and presented by historian David Olusoga. The popular house history series started in 2018 with a deceptively simple idea - David Olusoga traces the history of a single house, uncovering the lives of the people who lived there throughout centuries of British history.
There have been five series of A House Through Time altogether, featuring houses in Liverpool, Newcastle, Bristol and Leeds, as well as the programme A House Through Time: Two Cities at War, which looked at the histories of two apartment buildings, one in London and one in Berlin.

What is A House Through Time about?
The latest series of A House Through Time sees David Olusoga travelling to Edinburgh and researching the history of 20 and 22 Calton Hill, a block of flats built in the 1770s. David will discover that the buildings' inhabitants over the years include a clergyman who risked imprisonment, a notorious brothel-keeper and a prison warder who was attacked by an inmate.
Who presents A House Through Time?
A House Through Time is presented by Professor David Olusoga OBE, a historian, writer and broadcaster. He is Professor of Public History at the University of Manchester and is the author of books including Black and British: A Forgotten History and A House Through Time (cowritten with Melanie Back-Hansen).
