What is Children of the Blitz about?

During the Second World War, nearly 42,000 British civilians were killed in aerial bombings by Germany. While approximately 1.5 million city-resident children were evacuated to the countryside to try to protect them from the bombings, other families couldn’t bear to send their children away, so they lived through the Blitz.

Children of the Blitz features exclusive interviews with the last child survivors of the Blitz, now nonagenarians and centenarians, including those who were orphaned in the Blitz. The film will explore how ‘Blitz Spirit’ is still held up as a defining characteristic of Britishness today, and the impact of the air raids on the survivors.
