What is My Grandparents’ War?
My Grandparents’ War is a Channel 4 TV series, similar to Who Do You Think You Are?, in which celebrities discover the stories of their grandparents’ experiences during the Second World War. Each episode considers how the events their grandparents lived through helped to shape the wider world, in a series that combines rarely seen archive material with the testimony of veterans, experts and those close to the stars.

What is My Grandparents' War about?
In his episode of My Grandparents' War, Kit Harington discovers that his paternal grandfather John Harington served alongside James Bond creator Ian Fleming in Naval Intelligence. John, we learn, ran one of the 20th century’s most controversial spying operations and, in his later career with the secret services, worked with infamous double agent Kim Philby. Kit's grandmother Lavender Harington was involved in espionage at 'the Bletchley Park of the Caribbean'. Kit's maternal grandfather, Mick Catesby, served in Italy and saw action in an operation that cost the lives of dozens of his comrades. He suffered from shell shock but fell in love with his wife Pippa during the Blitz. This is not the first time Kit Harington has dived into his family history on TV. In 2017, he played Robert Catesby, one of the alleged leaders of the Gunpowder Plot and his own distant ancestor, in the BBC drama Gunpowder.
