Leading family history website Ancestry is offering a unique chance to access 326 million UK family history records for free this week.
The offer runs until 11.59pm on Sunday 13 September 2026.
To celebrate the release of new film Pressure, about the build up to the D-Day landings, the free Ancestry collections will allow family historians to discover the Second World War stories in their family.
They include the 1939 Register, a survey of the civilian population of England and Wales at the start of the Second World War; Ancestry’s ongoing collection of Second World War military service records; and POW records.
There is also free access to more general record collections, including the 1898-1968 UK and Ireland nursing registers; the Royal National Lifeboat Institution records; and the 1737-1969 Postal Service appointment books.
