Over seven million historic British newspapers with over 100 million pages are now free to search for a limited time.
Family history website Findmypast, which includes access to the British Newspaper Archive, has announced it is offering free access to its newspaper collections to celebrate passing the 100 million page mark.
First founded in 2011, the British Newspaper Archive is in the process of digitising the British Library’s newspaper collections.
The searchable collection now holds 2700 newspapers and other publications dating back to 1699 and including newspapers in the Republic of Ireland, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India and the Caribbean as well as the United Kingdom.
Old newspapers are a great resource for finding any of your ancestors who may have appeared in their local paper. The free access is available until 16 February 2026.
