Actor, singer and dancer Layton Williams will trace his family history on next week's episode of Who Do You Think You Are? Here's five things you might not know about the star...

1. Child star

Layton was born in Bury in 1994. Aged 12, he had his first starring role in Billy Elliot the Musical on London's West End.

2. Small screen

Layton played Stephen Carmichael in the BBC Three comedy series Bad Education from 2012 to 2014 and in the 2022 reunion special.

3. Keep dancing!

In 2023, Layton appeared on the twenty-first season of Strictly Come Dancing, where he was partnered with professional dancer Nikita Kuzmin. The pair achieved the highest score of the week 10 times and finished as joint runners-up with Bobby Brazier and Dianne Buswell.

4. Theatre award

In 2024 Layton played The Iceberg in Titanique — a West End parody of Titanic – and won a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical.

5. Next gen

Layton is the director of Pros From The Shows – an organisation that holds dance, singing and acting workshops across the UK. Its mission is to inspire the next generation of performers.
