Murdered by My Father and Sherwood actor Adeel Akhtar will discover his family history in Kenya on this week's episode of Who Do You Think You Are?
The episode will air on BBC One at 9pm on Thursday 23 July 2026.
At the start of the episode, Adeel says that his father Humayan was from Pakistan and his mother Mumtaz from Kenya. While he knows about his father's family history, he says he's "very fascinated" to learn about his Indo-Kenyan roots because he knows "nothing".
The episode sees Adeel travel to Nairobi and then Mombasa in Kenya to trace his family history. He discovers that his 3x great grandfather emigrated from India to Kenya in the 19th century and established a thriving business empire. However, he also learns about the discrimination faced by Indians in colonial Kenya and how another of his ancestors campaigned against it. He also discovers that he has African ancestry.
