One of Britain’s most popular dog food brands has celebrated its 175th anniversary with a reunion of the descendants of the company’s original founder – and a giveaway of a year’s free food for one lucky dog owner.
Baker’s dog food has its origins in a flour mill purchased by Edward Baker at Great Cornard in Sudbury in Suffolk in 1851.
The company, now owned by Purina, continues to manufacture dog food in Sudbury today.
To celebrate the company’s 175th anniversary, Barker family members were invited to tour the factory.
Charles Baker, Edward Baker’s 2x great grandson, said: “The local heritage behind the Bakers name means a great deal to us, so it’s wonderful to see history recognised and celebrated where it all began. All good businesses and products develop over time, and I’m proud that the family name lives on, as well as the business remaining in the local community, now based in Sudbury.”
To celebrate the anniversary, Baker’s is also running a competition giving Suffolk dog owners a chance to win a year’s supply of Baker’s dog food.
