Family history website Ancestry has added a major new collection of parish records from Doncaster in South Yorkshire.

The website added four new record sets: 737,235 1558-1812 baptism, marriage and burial records from Doncaster and the surrounding area; 949,940 1813-1925 Doncaster baptism records; 652,093 1754-1950 Doncaster marriage records; and 183,231 1813-2000 Doncaster burial records.

Church of England baptism, marriage and burial records are a crucial resource for tracing the births, marriages and deaths of our ancestors.

Among the famous people found in the records is Thomas Crapper. He is sometimes erroneously credited as the inventor of the flushing toilet, but he did contribute to the history of sanitation by founding a plumbing equipment company that is still in operation today and opening the world’s first toilet showroom.

The records include his baptism on 28 September 1836 in the parish of Thorne, the son of Thomas and Lucy Crapper.
