Over 150 UK historians will be giving free online talks about British local and family history, starting tomorrow.
All About That Place (AATP), the Society of Genealogist’s annual online local history event, will run from 7 to 16 October.
It will feature over 190 short ten-minute talks, available to watch for free from anywhere in the world.
Each day will have a specific theme: ‘Getting Started’, ‘Health and Medicine’, ‘Tools’, ‘Military and War’, ‘Work and Fun’, ‘Collections and Archives’, ‘Changing Places’, ‘Innovation, ‘Politics and Rights’, and ‘Sharing Stories’.
Those interested in history can look out for a wide range of expert talks on a variety of fascinating topics, including ‘Songs Sung by the British Armed Forces in War and Peace’, ‘How to Organise and Protect Your Personal Family Archive’, and ‘Bodysnatching at Great Missenden’.
The talks will be accessible to everyone in SoG’s Learning Hub and attendees can join SoG’s online community to talk with each other, attend watch parties and enter competitions.
AATP is organised by the Society of Genealogists (SoG), and supported by the Society for One Place Studies, A Few Forgotten Women, British Association for Local History, Federation of Family History Societies and Projectkin.
Ruth Willmore, SoG’s events and education manager, said the aim of the event was “to (re)ignite excitement in putting our ancestors in their place both geographically and socially”.
