Six entries for each of the six categories will be shortlisted by Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine staff judging the image alone.
A panel of three judges, to include at least one not employed as Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine staff, will then choose a winner from the shortlist for each category. Only at this stage will the 50-word caption also be considered.
The overall winner will be selected from the six category winners. This winner will be chosen by a panel of six judges, to include at least two not employed as Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine staff.
Photographs will be judged on the following:
- Character: does the photograph capture the character of the subject/subjects?
- Composition: is the overall image well-balanced and interesting?
- Impact: is this an image that stops you in your tracks?
- Quality: we’re looking for crisp, high-resolution images
- Rarity: old and unusual photographs will gain points here (this should help balance the issue of quality which can be trickier in older photographs)
