Inbound records

This guide was last updated in 2009

Whether your ancestor was born abroad and emigrated to the UK, or returned for visits whilst residing elsewhere, inbound passenger lists may assist in charting their movements.

A good starting point is www.ancestry.co.uk, a commercial website containing indexes to and images of UK Incoming Passenger Lists 1878-1960. Once again, these records relate to people travelling from destinations outside Europe and the Mediterranean, and the depth of the information provided can vary.

When looking beyond the scope of these records, you are unlikely to have such an easy voyage, but The National Archives guide mentioned above is once again very helpful.
