Estate records

Griffith's Valuation will identify your ancestor's landlord.

If your ancestor lived on a well administered estate, you may find estate rentals, tenure books and other records that document their tenancy. Rentals that can date from the late 18th century may identify an ancestor for whom no other record exists.

You may also be able to find out how your ancestor's landlord responded to his tenants during the famine or, in Julie's case, during the period of the Land League agitation. Irish Estate records can be found in repositories in Ireland and the UK.
