Did he win a medal?

This guide was last updated in 2011

It is possible that your ancestor could have been awarded the Baltic Medal or the Crimea Medal.

The Naval Medal rolls are held at The National Archives under series ADM 171 but these have now been digitised by Ancestry.co.uk and are searchable by name of the individual.

The Victoria Cross was introduced to reward valour during the Crimean War and there were several naval recipients.  All of those who won the VC during the Crimean War are now listed on Wikipedia.
