The Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain is the trade association of the travelling funfair industry and has been in existence since 1889.

From its origins in the late 19th century with a handful of members, it has flourished to the extent that 95% of travelling showmen are members of the Guild. The organisation is split into ten regional sections and one national office and has approximately 4,000 operating members. More details are available online here.

However, the Guild is an active working association for a business community and, although it may be able to pass on information to current family members, it will not routinely answer such enquiries.

Its archive of yearbooks and other related business correspondence is now held at the National Fairground Archive with restricted access, and staff can check for family records on your behalf.
