Covering Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Kincardineshire and Morayshire, this society holds monthly meetings for both beginners and those who are looking for advice on more in-depth research. It also produces a number of publications on census records, memorial inscriptions and parish maps, as well as a quarterly journal. The research centre, which was opened in 1987, conatins a library with a range of books, microfilms and microfiches.

Located conveniently next to the Record Office and the Register Office, the Centre is open to both members and non-members who care to take advantage of its impressive range of multi-media resources and online access via seven computers.
The Centre boasts over 7,200 resources including the 1981 IGI and the 1881 census on fiche. The Society has a bookshop, a range of courses, including an annual one for beginners and a journal, The Berkshire Family Historian.
The Society provides a range of talks by specialists through its local branches, while its website includes links to members’ interests, birth briefs, the Berkshire burial index, the library catalogue and activities.
