Family history website Findmypast issued an email to lapsed subscribers yesterday evening warning that their previously viewed records will only be accessible with a valid subscription.

The change means that family historians with Findmypast accounts will need to be active subscribers to the website to view records stored in their 'My records' section, including those who accessed the site via a free trial or free access promotion or whose subscriptions have lapsed.

A Findmypast spokesperson confirmed to Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine that the changes will be implemented on 1 October 2018, giving users time to download any records they need.

In November 2017, Findmypast unveiled a new pricing structure, consisting of three tiers - 'Starter' (£8.95 per month/£72 per year), 'Plus' (£12.95/£120) and 'Pro' (£15.95/£156).
