The National Army Museum (NAM) has joined forces with Ancestry.co.uk to launch a new competition to track down ancestral tales of equine heroism.

Entries can feature any story of working with horses during times of war – either on the farm or at the frontline – and one will be selected to be investigated further by professional researchers before being displayed at the NAM’s War Horse: Fact and Fiction exhibition.

The new display ties in with recent stage and screen adaptations of Michael Morpurgo's hugely popular novel War Horse and is set to run until August. The vital role of horses in conflicts up to and including the First World War is explored in depth, as well as the often close relationships that soldiers developed with their steeds.

For more information about the themes of the exhibition, visit the special section of the National Army Museum's website.
