This is the central archive for the ""Bundesland"" or administrative district of Baden-Württemberg of which Stuttgart is the capital. As well as documents relating to various State agencies the archive keeps private papers and photographs and the records of various local noble families. The place to visit for records of Catholic baptisms marriages and burials in the bishopric of Augsburg mostly dating after 1648. Many are on microfilm which can be viewed at a cost of €5 a day – be sure to reserve a film-reader in advance of your visit. The archive also offers a research service charged at €30 per half hour – apply in writing.
