Hi
Can anyone help with this missing relative?
Born J-S 1859 in Staines, Middlesex to William and Phoebe Woods. She appears in the !861 and 1871 censuses before getting married to Frederick Charles Greening in J-S 1875 in Windsor, Berks. They have one child ca;;ed Alfred in the 1881 census now living in Kent. What happens next? I can find no trace of her anywhere from this point on. Her husband Frederick remarries in 1892 and in the 1891 census Alfred is living with his uncle. I can find no death record for her. Any help would be much appreciated!
Many thanks
Chris

She's done a runner, so looks like she's still alive in september 1885.

Still about in 1887, looks like a bad marriage. Gives her address and she seems to be using the name Green.

In 1891, 54 victoria cottages is unoccupied.

Looks like she was in the pub with her mum in 1879, matches where her son was born.

At the bottom of the long report, says both women were living disreputably with the man.

I have a feeling this is Frederick. The former soldier who tried to commit suicide when his wife walked out on him, as she mentions in the assault case.

Many thanks for all this information. Although it is not good news it does explain a lot of things such as the son living with his uncle.

The British newspaper archive. It has it's own site and FMP has access to it I believe.

Well worth looking at, I would think there is more about Sophia that the OCR hasn't picked up.Just involves a lot of browsing through large pages. I've found out a lot about my ancestors from it.

One missing one was found after a report said he set fire to some cottages, then others said he was sentenced to death, then commuted to transportation and eventually died on the Hulk Fortitude of Typhoid.

Another was the brother of one who shot their nephew. Apart from the first reports and court cases, there is a 2 page special in the newspapers about his execution outside Leicester prison by Calcraft in front of an estimated 12,000 people.

They put meat on the bones, some answers ( as in your case) and often give you a lot of clues.
