I think I've managed to decipher these 2 causes of death, but would like some thoughts of others please.

Below, Hannah Rowles (my G G G Grandmother) died 1864 aged 75, her 32 year old son having taken his own life just 6 weeks before she died!

Emma Doubting (G G Grandmother, formerly Honeycombe nee Rowles) died aged 33 leaving Hannah to bring up Emma's daughter Frances Emma Honeycombe, aged 8

Ah, yes. That well known disease, P-squiggle. I have no idea whether the spelling changed over the years but I'm certain that while the word on the DC is indeed Phthisis, no question, I'm also fairly certain that's not the spelling that's been used! :-)

Thank you both for your answers. I also thought it was Phthisis but the spelling on this cert was very poor. I've seen the same cause of death on a few others certs I've got but never spelt quite so badly.

The term 'feebleness of heart' is a new one on me though! My G x 3 grandmother Hannah had suffered so much sadness and tragedy in her life that I'm not surprised her heart was so weakened by all the upset :( She did well to make it to 75!

Thanks again for your much appreciated input :)
