Beautiful Lady, possible ancestor

I inherited this painting when my uncle Geoffrey Laws died in 1979; it was in his house all the years I remember and I often asked who she was and was only told 'the governess' or 'wrong side of the blanket'. Most intriguing. I would be grateful for any thoughts thereon, I am not really expecting anyone to name her - but there again, how wonderful would that be. Thank you in anticipation.

You may want to find some details about your uncle e.g. DoB, place birth, name of parents and their DoB ... This would help build up a tree and perhaps gain clues into who your mystery lady may be.
BTW there is no picture attached.

Yes, I have tree, 6000 odd people but I can't begin to place her; I'll try attaching the file again, did upload attachment, add file, not sure if there's anything else to do?? Ah, it doesn't like my file size, try this one.... ha, ha, that's good, it now tells me the board attachment quota has been reached. Pretty useless all round....

Obviously I'm commenting without having seen the painting but does it have an artist's signature? If so and the artist is well known or you can find out anything about the artist that may help you find out who the lady is.

Good point, thank you, but no, not signed, I'll keep trying to post the picture in case someone can point towards an era or style or anything.... no, still reached board attachment quota, who knows whether that is forever, in which case this whole section will be pretty tedious!
