Hi,
We are renovating an old Cornish cottage and found this lovely photo behind some old wood panelling. I would love to know any information about the uniform that the soldier is wearing, ie, approx date, regiment etc. Apologies for the quality of the picture, the photo is very faded.
Many thanks
Jane, Falmouth, Cornwall

Hi Jane,

I'm no expert in military uniforms but I do have a picture of an ancestor in uniform similar to this. From what little I know I'd say it's the latter part of the 19th century, so the soldier concerned could easily have served in India or in South Africa, in the Boer War. I hope someone more knowledgeable than me can help further!

Jane

As you are in Falmouth, have you checked out the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry - a possibility. The regimental museum is in Bodmin. It has a useful website.

Thank you very much for your replies - I think I'll make a trip to the museum.
