WW2 - what was Mary's service?

Postby lesleyplant » Mon Dec 16, 2013 5:15 pm

hello,
I want to find out what my second cousin Mary Millington (7/7/1916 - 11/9/1996) did during WW2. Family info is sketchy - possibly A.T.S., or "fixing aircraft". The shoulder patch in the photo looks like wings, but I can't identify it - it's not like the Air Transport Auxilliary one. Does anyone recognise it?
thanks for looking,
Lesley

I think it's a WAAF ( Womens Auxiliary Air Force ) badge. Here is a link to some general info :

also a link to some images for comparison :

single prop is i think leading aircraftsman, 3 blade is senior. she was a groundcrew but not a techie. so she could have worked on the aircraft.

Thanks for the info. I will send for her service records (fingers crossed that there is something to find!). Later in life, she was a "clippie" on the London buses; and then a clerk for an insurance company.
regards,
Lesley
