Help dating photograph and uniform ww1/ww2

Postby sarahhun » Mon Oct 14, 2013 10:12 pm

Hi there,

I am looking to identify the uniforms, date, country of the people in the these two photographs.

I am assuming that the portrait on the left is of a young woman but I find very little evidence that that uniform existed in the WAACs. It could be that she chose to dress up. No badges are visible so it may be hard to identify.

I would appreciate any help possible!

Thanks!

Where it exists, a cap badge is usually one of the best regimental identifiers for army uniforms. There does appear to be a badge on the cap worn by the young ?woman in uniform, but the picture size/resolution is far too small for me to make it out. Maybe you can have a closer look with the aid of a magnifying glass to make it out.

If you look the way the jacket buttons up, that's a bloke's jacket. Looks like a dressing-up job to me!

Hi, I am now pretty certain it's a female dressed in male military uniform - 1902 British Pattern dress, my research reveals.

I am now trying to identify the regimental badge on the peaked cap, I posted another zoomed-in photo but it's still not great (photo isn't very sharp either) It looks to me like it has three points at the top?

If anybody could help, that would be great.
