Is there a list of early 1930s RAF personnel?

Postby Meg Davidson » Mon Oct 14, 2013 5:01 am

I am writing the biography of Frederic Hardwicke Knight, born in London in 1911. He claimed to have been in the RAF in the early 1930s but to have got out before WWII, but he was not the most reliable informant. Does any British museum or organisation hold a list of RAF personnel for these years that I can search for his name? The non-refundable 30 pound fee for a full service record is a bit steep when I can't even confirm that such a thing exists! :?

I've looked for him in the Aero Club Aviators Certificate collection on Ancestry.co.uk but he's not there.

If he was an officer in the Royal Air Force then he should be in the published Air Force List, I know that there are copies at The National Archives (TNA), Kew, and he may be listed in the London Gazette which is available on line. TNA also have aviator's records.
