RAF in South Africa

Postby Paul_whitw » Sun Sep 29, 2013 8:55 pm

I am trying to trace my late fathers service in South Africa during WW2. I am led to believe he was with 21 Air School during his time there. I have been trying to trace anything about the Air School but with little success. My fathers name was James Whitworth and he was born 17/01/1921. I know he enjoyed his time out in SA and I would really like to find out anything I can.

Have a look at This will give you information on the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency, National Archives at Kew, Air Historical Branch etc etc. You should be able to apply for a copy of your father's service record if I have read this correctly although there is a charge.

Good luck

The Operations Record Books (AIR 54/166 and 167) held at The National Archives, Kew, and can be viewed online as they have been digitised.
