It would help to know what information you have. Scotland's People (SP) is the best place but it is unlikely his death certificate will be available online, but you can order an Official Extract. Similarly SP will have the birth certificate, the census and the marriage certificate which should be available online.

You posted about Patrick Reddichan on the Military board , stating that he served with the RGA , service number 344071. I replied there that this number is that of Sgt Thomas Reddichan , not Patrick. Here is the link to the record on Ancestry :
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss ... &ml_rpos=1

I have also checked this on TNA and there is no entry for Patrick Reddichan , only the above for Thomas.

It's important to be clear when you ask for help and give as much information as you can , particularly giving the right name would be a good start ! As you are looking for both men do you know how they are related and do you have parents' names ? The only Patrick Reddichan I can see was born in 1895 , not 1885 , so any extra info you have might help .

Hello Colin

Im so sorry i was unclear with my information, here is what i have

Patrick Reddichan Born 28 Feb 1885 in Dundee
Thomas Reddichan Born 7 Nov 1889 in Dundee . Died 18 Jan 1928 Canada..
They were both brothers parents were

Patrick Reddichan Born abt 1857 in Connemarra, Galway Ireland
Mary Porri born 1857 Dublin Ireland

I have no information on Patrick at all except his birth.

On Thomas i have he was in the Royal Artillery Garrison he emigrated to Canda in 1927. I cant find any service records for him.

This is difficult , isn't it !

I found Patrick Radichan married Mary Porri in 1882 in Lochee and I found the birth records for Thomas and Patrick which you mention. Looking at the passenger list for Thomas I found that there was a sister , Mrs Mary Morrison , who was mentioned as next of kin.

Mary Redichan sp aged 24 married Angus Morrison 23 Jan 1919 at 112 Bloomfield Rd , Glasgow
Bride's parents Patrick Redichan , stone mason , and Mary , nee Porrie , deceased

Patrick Reddichan , mason journeyman , aged ,72 died 1927 , found dead July 4th probably from asphyxsia by drowning. Death registered by Francis Reddichan , son , of 39 West Whorterbank , Lochee
Patrick's parents : Thomas Reddichan , blacksmith and Sarah Docherty.

Mary Ruddichan aged 50 , jute winder , married to Patrick Ruddichan , mason journeyman , died 3 May 1914 in Royal Infirmary Dundee , from fractured skull. Death registered by son Francis of 45 Cobden (?) Street

This looks like Patrick senior on the 1881 Scotland census :

Patrick Reduchan b 1842 Ireland , mason
Sarah Reduchan 52 mother
Bridget 30
Fanny 26
John 32
address 40 Whorterbank, McLaren's Land , Lochee
and the family can be found in 1871 at 35 Whorterbank with father , Thomas , blacksmith.

Even accounting for a variety of spellings of Redichan and variable birth dates I cannot find Patrick and Mary and the three children , or any further children , on the census together. There is a family on the 1901 Scotland census , transcribed as Reddichaw on Ancestry , which has Patrick , Thomas and Mary with the right birth years and birthplace but their mother is Jessie , who is also a jute winder. Jessie doesn't seem to appear anywhere else , but as Patrick senior and Mary are still alive this record doesn't seem right.

Returning to Patrick Redichan the younger , have you checked ScotlandsPeople to see if he died in childhood ?

I'll keep trying on this , but that's all for now.

It's worth having a look at the newspapers for the family. Here are a couple of items :

Dundee Courier Tues 26 May 1896

Dundee Police Court

Patrick Ruddichan , mason , St Mary's Lane , Lochee charged with assaulting his wife ....in her house. The accused's wife supported herself and 3 children from her own earnings.

This points to the family not living together and may explain why they can't be found on the census.

Dundee Courier Mon 4 May 1914

Mary Poria or Ruddichan , 57 , of 43 Cobden Street, Lochee died under tragic circumstances yesterday.... fell , going upstairs....

There are other entries which may refer to the sons. However there was another Ruddichan family , parents John and Ann , living in the same area so it may be difficult to know for sure. For this reason I also think that the Medal Rolls entry may not refer to ' your' Thomas .

Have a look at the papers if you can. The articles paint a picture of a life of violence , drunkeness and crime in the tenements which I'm sure will be interesting !
