Please, please, please can somebody help me. I am trying to find out what happend to my great uncle,George Hanway.

He is buried in Cairo War Memorial Cemetery having died on 12/12/18.

I have tried searching the Military Deaths records but am unable to find anything. He served in the Royal Army Service Corps, H.T. attd.30th Bde HQ, sevice number T/40279.

Any help or advice will be gratefully received.

There is some information about the Army Service Corps in WWI here http://www.1914-1918.net/asc.htm. You might find it helpful to subscribe to the Great War Forum and post your query there http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/.

Ancestry have his Medal Index Card (for G Hanway) which shows that he was first a Private in the Manchester Regiment (No. 8710) and was awarded the 1914 star, with a qualifying date of 27 Aug 1914.

You could try the War Diary (if it survives) at The National Archives, Kew, the First World War War Dairies are online. It may not mention George by name but should say what happened on that day, assuming that he was killed on that day and had not died from his wounds received at an earlier stage.

It's not a transcription error , the name is incorrect in the Index.
