Surrey Parish Records Available on Ancestry.co.uk

Ancestry has just updated its collection of Surrey parish records.

I have found a couple of sad but interesting entries today. One of my distant relatives, Richard Sanders, died in Horley aged 7 in 1768. He "died by ignorantly eating poison laid for rats."

His father, Johnson Sanders, was not much luckier as he died in Horley in 1778, "killed by a fall from a ladder."

I hope to avoid both of those fates!

Ooh err, both of those sound rather grim! Not very nice ways to go.

I too found quite a lot of my kin in the Surrey release. Among them is the cremation record for my great great grandmother (she committed suicide by connecting the gas supply pipe to her mouth) and the baptism of my grandfather's uncle, who died aged just 13 months. It wasn't until very recently that we discovered he had existed at all!
I've now left Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine. Please contact wdytyaeditorial@immediate.co.uk regarding any forum queries.
