Buttons Military & other

Postby pebble-or-ripple » Fri Mar 15, 2013 8:19 pm

We have a button box that has been in our possesion since 1966, with no military connections from us.
it belonged to an aunty that died young in 1928, it has her name carved into it, her father was on HMS Diadem in 1899 at the time of his marriage, and on HMS Ganges in 1901 census. Among the hundreds of buttons are several of interest, first is probaby from her fathers uniform, oval 13mm X 17mm, any ideas of rank that wore that?

This forum does not like me putting the correct legend in roman numerals calls it too " spammy"

so, another button , sorry very difficult to photo, in a set of several cheap looking brass domed buttons with an Eight pointed ‘star’ bit like the star used on police of firemens uniforms, in the centre of the star is a circle with what looks like a building with very small writing around it and "37th Huzzars” ( with the 37 in roman numerals)

A small brass metal & plastic/shell/horn button about ¾ inch diameter with a five pointed Star in the centre, with a circle within it containing what looks like a leaf. Around the outside of the star is a circle containing the legend
“ GREAT SEAL OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA 1907“
It has a brass loop on the back for fixing, not the usual holes through the button.
So it needs identifying,
was it a uniform button?
Was it worn only by particular officials of the state legislature,
the legal department.
Or was it a common or garden item?
What ever,
it moved from Oklahoma after 1907 to the button box before the 1960s as there is no known American connection since the 1960s
