Help with a photo from WW1

Postby gemstar » Fri Jan 18, 2013 4:18 pm

I am hoping that someone will be able to help me.
I am trying to date, place and identify the attached photo.
It was taken just before this group went to Mesopotamia.
Underneath the full photo, it states "The Mesopotamia 49 & 50 Workshop Draft"
I know that my grand father, George William Curtis (1891-1966) is here somewhere, but I am not too sure exactly where.
I think that the the group is a group from the Royal Engineers, as he was an apprentice engineer at the time of the census in 1911.
He was born and raised in Middlesbrough.

too little detail in this image, can you get a better scan of all or just part of the image that shows heads and any insignia

Hi
I have since found out that this picture is of a group of men with the Army Ordnance Corps. It was taken in 1915 ish.
My grandfather was discharged at the end of the war as an acting corporal, and won the British War Medal and the British Victory Medal.
He also went to India - not sure why. I have heard stories about his time there.
He didn't talk much about his time in the army, he was just glad to avoid the trenches.
He died in 1966, and I was born in 1965 - so I don't remember him
