I agree with jaykayare about the older brother being the one seated, they look as if they are in their early twenties so given their dates of birth perhaps this was taken before they went to WW1. You don't give any further details so it is difficult to do a search for you but if you look at ancestry's military listings you might locate them, there are certainly listings for Frederick Benwell.

Is this your family on the 1901 census:

Elizabeth Benwell
Age: 32
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1869
Relation: Wife
Gender: Female
Where born: Chichester, Sussex, England

Civil parish: Aldershot Military in Stanhope and Wellington Lines
Ecclesiastical parish: Aldershot St Michael
County/Island: Hampshire
Country: England

Registration district: Farnham
Sub-registration district: Aldershot
ED, institution, or vessel: Provisional Battalion and Imperial Yeomanry
Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 1
Piece: 613
Folio: 146
Page Number: 12
Household Members: Name Age
Elizabeth Benwell 32
Frederick Benwell 11
William Benwell 10
Arthur Benwell 8
Percival Benwell 4
Reginald Benwell 2

If the brothers came from a military family this might fit . A bit more info would help.Looking a little further there is a service record for this William in the Army Service Corps. Were they born in Chatham , do you know ?

frederick the older one was born in hampshire and his brother was born in chatham kent and is listed as being born in an army corps (?). there father frederick seemed to be listed as working in army jobs from the age of around 18. even on the 1911 census when he was approx 41 his occupation was listed as Army Pensioner Goods Despatch Clerk. the family list you just posted does seem correct as it lists some of his brothers and sisters

The Pension record I found was for William Benwell b Chatham , attested boy 1906 , next of kin Frederick Benwell senior , father , of Aldershot , and elder brother , Frederick Geo Victor also of Army Service Corps. Findmypast has the service record for Frederick senior , I think - b1869 Alton, Hants , attested 16 Aug 1887 Woolwich , Commissariat & Transport Corps. So the two in the photo appear to have been in the ASC and the uniform is presumably their dress uniform. They look quite young , don't they !

You probably know this already , but their father seems to have been quite a distinguished soldier. There is a further service recoord for him on Ancestry , listing medals including mentions in dispatches and DCM.

I read your letter in the Christmas magazine, and wonder whether you may be related to my Benwell family. My great grandfather was William Benwell born 1829 in Basing, Hampshire. His father was Daniel Benwell but the previous 2 generations were all William.

Hello, I am looking up family history and I had a great-grandfather named Fredrick Benwell. This is similar time frames to which he would have been born. He lived in Epsom when he died 27th December 1961, That's the only history to which I know about him so far, I don't know if he had sibling but this picture looks familiar.

These boys are my late husband's uncles and were off to WW1, I imagine. They had 4 other brothers and one sister, all younger. I believe one of the brothers died in WW1, although we don't have many photographs. The chin of the one standing (Frederick) is quite distinctive, even in later generations and I believe they were a good-looking bunch. My father-in-law was in the RAF and retired in Zimbabwe, returning to England in 1969 to avoid his son being drafted into the army over there.
