Samuel McDonald, Sheriff of Aberdeen

Postby Artognou » Fri Oct 19, 2012 11:16 am

Hi all,

I am looking for any possible records of Samuel McDonald, my Great, Great Uncle.

He has his own spot in the Gordon Highlanders Museum in Aberdeen.
He was Sheriff of Aberdeen and Deputy Lord Lieutenant of somewhere else, I think.

His military title was Lieutenant-Colonel Samuel McDonald, his field rank was Brigadier General, which was quite unusual for a territorial officer, he had two bars on his DSO, a CMG, he had several other titles, but the most outstanding award he received was The Military Star of Avis, all earnt during WWI, he also got 300 Germans to surrender by himself during WWI when he led Portuguese troops, so he had an unusually successful career!

Are there any places I could get records or ceremonial photos of what he received at all?

Any help would be simply amazing,

Many thanks,
