ROYAL ARTILLERY GUNNER RECORD 1861

Postby jen50bj47 » Mon Sep 24, 2012 10:20 am

Trying to locate military records for William Barnes b/abt 1836 Manchester, Lancashire, England. Located 1861 census for a William Barnes who was 'boarding' at 97 High Street, Southampton Holy Rood, Hampshire with a family called COX. This census revealed that he was a Gunner in the R A.

If this is the William I am looking for his parents were Josiah & Martha Barnes, last known address for William was 1851, he was 15 years of age, living with his parents Josiah & Martha @ 21 Nelson Street, Manchester - William's trade was listed as a Spinner.

Can someone please help, I have successfully tracked his parents & siblings but this William remains a mystery. Last known positive siting was the 1851 census I mentioned above.

Many thanks

Have you looked in The National Archives or findmypast to see if his service record is listed there?.

Ancestry.com is the only site I have used. Have never done any research via the National Archives or Find My Past - will give it a go though.

Thank you
