When I submit a private message I get a response saying the message has been sent; however the message then remains in the Outbox and does not appear in my sent items until much later.

I must say I find the whole site rather difficult to navigate and use compared to other forums that I use.

Hi there,

Yes, the private messaging system is one that takes a bit of getting used to! The message will stay in your outbox until the other person has opened it and read it, at which point it'll be moved. We're also working on redeveloping the site in the coming months, so if you have any other specific things that you have trouble using, please do let me know and we'll bear your comments in mind.
