Bishop family

Postby calvinator » Tue Apr 10, 2012 8:26 am

I'm trying to trace the Bishop family orginally from St Mary Bourne and Itchen Abbas in Hampshire. William Bishop married Charlotte Oliver in 1824 in Itchen Abbas. They had 5 children - the last born in 1839 in Highclere. Yet by the 1841 census most of the children are living in the Kingclere Union workhouse and I can find no trace of either parent. Can anybody help?

There is a death record for a Charlotte Bishop in Kingsclere 1839 :
Charlotte Bishop A-J 1839 Kingsclere, Hampshire v7 p73

Have you ruled this one out ?

Hi

I hadn't found this record so thank you very much - it may explain why the kids were in the workhouse. I wonder what happened to William Bishop

Thanks

Hi
Just to add a little more detail to Colin's reply:
name: Charlotte Bishop
gender: Female
burial date: 26 Apr 1839
burial place: Highclere, Southampton, England
Also you may already have this detail re Charlotte jnr.
name: Charlotte Bishop
gender: Female
baptism/christening date: 24 Mar 1839
baptism/christening place: Highclere, Southampton, England
father's name: William Bishop
mother's name: Charlotte
I believe this Charlotte was still in the Kingsclere Union Workhouse on the 1851 census.
Unfortunately there are a number of recorded deaths for William Bishops in the Hampshire area, I have been unable to find him on later census returns.
