I am attempting to find John Taylor (valet), born 1862 and Sarah Taylor(Kyle), born 1858 Stoneykirk, Wigtonshire. They were married in London in 1887 and in 1888 had a daughter Bella/Isabella. In 1889 twins, Andrew and James Alexander were born in Stoneykirk. After this the trail goes cold. In the 1891 census Bella and Andrew were living in with their Grd Father, Andrew Kyle in Stoneykirk, but no sign of the rest of the family. In the 1901 census Andrew is still living with his Grd Father, but again no sign of the family. I believe that James Alexander was killed in WW1 but I have no other details.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi John,

I found the Scotland census 1891 showing Bella (age 3) and Andrew (age 2) living with their grandparents, Andrew & Helen KYLE.

In the England census for 1891, I found a John TAYLOR age either 29 or 39, depending on the website, who was a butler in the household of Albert J VENN (122 Harley Street, Marylebone). There was also Sarah TAYLOR (30), who was a cook. Both were born in Scotland.
[Ref. RG12 piece 93 folio 5 page 4; reg.dist. Marylebone; sub-reg.dist. Cavendish Square]

I found the Scotland census 1901, showing Andrew (12) still with his grandfather.

In the England census for 1901, I found a Sarah TAYLOR (42) living in Woking, Surrey, with children Helen (13 - aka Bella?), Edward (9), Alexander (8), Sarah (6), John (4) and Jeannie (11mo). Sarah's shown as Head of Household, but also as married; she was born in Wigtown, Scotland.
[Ref. RG13 piece 597 folio 78 page 26; reg.dist. Guildford; sub-reg.dist. Woking]

Also in the England census for 1901, I found a John TAYLOR (37), a valet enumerated in the household of Lord Hamilton of DALZELL. John is shown as married and having been born in Scotland.
[Ref. RG13 piece 3011 folio 61 page 42; reg.dist. Melton Mowbray; sub-reg.dist. Melton Mowbray]

In the England census for 1911, I found a Sarah TAYLOR (50), living in Brookwood, Woking, Surrey, with children John (14) and Jeannie (11) plus grandchild Jennie Amelia CRABTREE (2). Sarah is again shown as HoH, married 23 years, having had 10 children, 7 of whom were still living.
[Ref. RG14PN3041 RG78PN107 RD33 SD1 ED14 SN80; reg.dist. Guildford; sub.dist. Woking]

Sadly, the only John TAYLOR of about the right age and p.o.b. on the England census for 1911 was a house decorator in Pembrokeshire. He's shown as being married but, because he wasn't HoH, it didn't show how long he'd been married for.

For good measure, there's an entry on the Scotland census for 1911, showing an Andrew TAYLOR (21) living in Inch, Wigtown county. He's a dairyman, shown as born in Stoneykirk. There is no-one else shown for the household.
[Ref. 1911 886/00 011/005]

Finally, I think you'll find that James Alexander died 1890 October 31 age 1yr 8mo, in Stoneykirk.

Hope this helps.

not sure if youre still on but i am also a direct descendant of Andrew Taylor and im also searching for John Taylor with little luck. did you manage to find out any of his history. also i have found that Andrews twin brother James Alexander died in 1889 (the year of his birth) in london i am not sure what he died of. We have also found out that John and Sarah were married in st Columbas church Pont Street london. also sarah left home at the tender age of 13 and some 16 years later they married.
