1911 Census

Postby clarksclerks » Sun Oct 30, 2011 11:07 pm

Thanks for the notification that the first transcriptions from the 1911 Census were available. My grandparents were living in Guernsey at the time, so I checked out the site. Their first child, my aunt, was 4 years old at the time and under 'occupation' for her Grandpa had written 'House Ruler', which had been struck out by the Census collator. Grandpa was in the Royal Engineers and had been posted to Gibralter not long after she was born, so I can imagine how she probably ruled the household!

Does anyone know what the Royal Engineers were doing in Guernsey in 1911? I think Grandpa was there for a couple of years or so.

Thanks aghain
