Does anybody know of Chestnut Street in Gorton,Manchester in 1917.
A relative was born there but havn't been able to trace it.
It may not be standing now but if anybody knows where it was or has any photos of the area I would be grateful for any help

Hi Briden27,
Chestnut Street in Gorton changed its name to Carberry Road.
It still exists. You will find it on Google maps.
There are 6 images of Carberry Road on the Manchester Digitised Images website: www.images.manchester.gov.uk
The image numbers are m23085-90

I know it is a bit late now but if you are still looking then the following may be of use.

www.old-maps.co.uk have various maps of the area including one from1908 showing that the was a Cotton Mill to the East of St. James and that Chestnut Street was to the East of this mill between Cedar Street and Beech Street.

Also Alan Godfrey Maps have published a map of Gorton and Belle Vue (1905) Ref. No. 104.16

Cheers

Keith
