Initials RB on baptism record

Postby mbford222 » Fri Jun 24, 2011 3:46 am

Can anyone suggest what the initials RB stand for in this baptism please? There is a date with the initials. I assume the PB on the next entry is for Private baptism, but I can't think what RB might mean.

Thank you for all suggestions

I think I can read another date underneath the 1890 one: I think it is 1850. Could this be a late baptism, the R standing for something like retarded or retro? Good luck!

RB appears to be referring back (to a previous baptism in 1850 ?) and PB appears to have been added later (at a later rebaptism in 1982 ?)

I've just had another look - the PB also says "received into the church Jan27 1892" could this be someone being accepted into a different branch of the church and being re-baptised ?

PB is a Private Baptism the child being received into the church Jan. 27 1892.
The RB should not happen but it seems to be a Re-Baptism on Sept 28 1890.
I would check the register for a baptism on that date.
Cheers

I have found this post very interesting!
Well done Guy. On 28th September 1890 there is the baptism of Louisa Hobbs, same parents, same occupation, same address, same church, same curate. Louisa born 15th April 1889.

I wonder if Albert was poorly in some way and not expected to live so his baptism was rushed forward ahead of a planned sibling baptism? If 'R.B' does mean re-baptised perhaps Albert just got 'done' again with his sister simply because he was there during the service of baptism!
