Recoding gravestones and memorials

Postby phsvm » Sun Apr 03, 2011 3:18 pm

From another posting on this forum I've found the gravestone photos website - http://www.gravestonephotos.com/

For anyone who hasn't looked at it I'd recommend it. The project is on-going and is an attempt at recording as many gravestones as possible through the UK and overseas. So far the project seems to be in its infancy - in my own country there are only 6 graveyards recorded - but the potential for this resource is huge.

They are looking for volunteers so with the summer coming up it would be an ideal time for all of us to go out and take photos of the gravestones in our local church to add to this resource. I know I shall be.

Gravestone and memorials will not last forever - already the inscriptions on many are faded and worn - so the recording of this unique source of information needs doing before it is lost for ever.

Why not pencil and afternoon of photography in your diary now?
