The article on lone women is fascinating - of course none of them should be in our family tree. ;) But it's Jane Austen to a T.

That depends on how you design your family tree. If you design it bottom up, to include only your direct ancestors, then you are right, they won't be in there. If you design it top down, as the descendents of a particular ancestor, then they should appear.
