Lock Hospitals

I didnt know of this place in Glasgow until I few years ago... it was kept one of our secrets it seems.. it was run by the church and meant to cure young women and children who had venereal diseases, were pregnant or lead immoral lives.. immorality it seems was even looking the wrong way at a man or wearing provocative clothes.. It was situated in Rottenrow and only closed in the mid 50s.. they used mercury baths for the VD on these poor women causing burns and sometimes death.. Religion was taught and for the ones who did survive they were given jobs with god fearing people.. I just wonder how many slipped back to their former sad lives back then.. poverty was real poverty, and child abuse was ignored completely..
