Richard Burgess's Article

Postby Jan P » Wed Jun 09, 2010 9:40 pm

I hope Richard Burgess's story in the May 2010 magazine will be a help to me.
He struck gold with a seafaring ancestor in Leith being mentioned in newspaper and other records that he accessed on line.
My great-great-grandfather Joseph Bass Miller was born in North Leith on 18 June 1824; his father Joseph Miller was a sailor/seaman; his mother Isobel/Isabella Fin(d)lay was considered by her family to have married beneath herself. That is all I know about the parents.
As soon as I can I'll be trying Richard's success routes connected with Leith and shipping.
Joseph Bass Miller with wife Rose Jean Church and a small daughter emigrated from Dundee to Australia in 1848. They had eleven children in total who are referred to as The First XI in family lore.
