Perhaps it shouldn't, but it does rile me when one sees where a lot of work has gone into providing much info for people, and they just cannot be bothered to say thanks. Perhaps it's a sign of the times in which we live. I was born in the thirties when we were taught to say a simple thanks for every thing.
Others on other sites have also noticed the modern trend. They too don't like it. Rant over. Have a nice day everyone. Pete.

Pete,
I know what you mean, although I guess it is possible that people send a private "thank you" message. I received one recently from someone after I replied to a post, however it does not always happen. Conversely, I also had a very brief message from someone else which did not acknowledge any of the information I posted for them. I mailed them to confirm what they were trying to find out and asked if they had been researching for long. They replied "About 1 month" - that was it. There were no thanks or acknowledgement of what I had found out for them. I felt a bit of a mug for spending so much time on their query. I may not follow up any further requests for information from them.
Sometimes I think people are very quick to put queries on forums, before they have really done any research of their own.

People not saying Thank You is not just a problem for Internet, I it get with the Cub group I run. I am aware that I am one which jumps the gun with posting before researching some times but I have learn my Lesson from that.

Pete

I think the 'shoe is on the other foot' re: my posting of 28 Feb. You should have had a reply by now, if a PM one? Apologies for my posting.

I like to give 'the benefit of the doubt' but sometimes......

About a year and a half ago I did some PM with someone from this forum and even offered to go to my Local Record Office as it was local to me and the information this person was after. After a couple of PMs and agreeing that I would do this research for this person I PMed back and asked for a little bit of background info just to make it easier when I got to Record Office AND - GUESS WHAT? I have never had the courtesy of any reply since. Alas I will not be assisting that person again, although I am still visiting this particular Record Office.

Does anyone have a spare issue of the April 08 magazine (issue 8)? I tried to order this as a back issue but it is now sold out. I am particularly intestested in the CD which contains records from Derbyshire.
