Record Search Pilot - Family Search

Postby callbrian » Fri Feb 12, 2010 2:44 pm

Hi
I have been using familysearch.org for quite sometime and have occasionally used the newish Record Search Pilot which sends you to findmypast.com to view records. Does anybody know if Family search is going to become a pay to view site, when the search pilot is fully operational?

No, the answer is a bit of old news really.
In 2008
FamilySearch teamed up with findmypast.com, The Origins Network, and Intelligent Image Management to provide online resources.
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/home/Ne ... ndexes.asp

The result of this collaboration is that searches and transcripts originating from familysearch will still be free but (in the case of census records for example) if you decide to view an “original image” there may be a charge.
This charge is partly due to the licencing agreement with the National Archives/ONS.
Cheers

Hi folks
You might also be interested to know that if you actually go to one of the LDS Family History Centres (presumably in any country), then you also get free access to several licensed resources through "Family History Services" (I think it's called) using their on-line computers. This service is NOT available to the home user via FamilySearch, but ONLY at the FHC.
