James Sincliar Aged 7 Only Sinclair in House

Why would this happen, mother and father dead? Yet his father is listed on his marriage certificate, no mention of his mother, but the father is not marked as deceased

What period was this, and where did you get the information? If it was on a census from 1851 onwards it should give his relationship to the head of household. Only in the 1841 census will you not find this information. It was relatively common in those days for children to be boarded out in order to attend school - or maybe he was just visiting grandparents.

You should be able to find some clue in the information given. How about later censuses - I'm assuming you did find him on a census. Where was he living 10 years later?
