Help identifying WWI cap badge

Postby anyawood » Sun Dec 13, 2009 3:50 pm

Hi

I've attached photos of my great grandfather Joseph Watson who I've been told served in WW1. Unfortunately I have no idea which regiment or even if he was army/navy. Can anyone help me to identify the cap badge in the picture? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's not the clearest picture - sorry!

Thanks in advance

Anya

Hi,
can you give a few details about your grandfather and we may be able to come up with an answer.
When and where born etc. I can't find a Joseph Watson in Ancestry's WW1 records.

Hi

Thanks for the relpy. Unfortunately all I know is that he was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne approx 1891. Am off to see my Great Aunt (his only surviving child) over the New Year so she may have some answers.

Thanks again

From the shape and form of the badge it could be one of the Fusilier regiments but the image is not that too good to say if that is correct or not. Could you post the full image of him as there may be more clues within the picture to say what he was in.

I would agree, probably Fusiler. But if we could see the full uniform it would provide extra clues. Hat shape and type, buttons, other markings.
Can you attach whole photo?

I have found a Joseph Watson who served in the Northumberland Fusiliers. His address is given as Newcastle on Tyne and he was 22 years old when he enlisted. Go onto the Ancestry Site and click on WW1 Military Records - give as much information as you can and hopefully you will come up with your great-grandfather's military record. Hope it is the right Joseph Watson! :)
