WW1 Uniform query

Postby jgking » Mon Oct 05, 2009 2:34 pm

My Grandfather: Arthur Read, served in British Army during WW1. I have no idea what his regiment was, only the attached photograph showing him in uniform. His army records were destroyed during the Blitz (along with many others) so I would like to try and find out something about him.
He was born in Kings Cross, London, in 1891. Possibly he joined a London/Southern regiment, but I'm only guessing.
Many thanks for any help received.
Arthur Read in military uniform, presumably early in WW1.

Going by his cap badge it looks like he served in the Army Service Corps (later Royal Army Service Corps) and going by the bandolier across his chest, riding breeches, long crop and spurs that he is wearing I would say that he was a driver.

Hi Snaphappy: Thanks very much for uniform info. Glad you recognised cap-badge, etc.
Just one query: would you know whether. re-riding crop and spurs, does that mean Grandad worked only with horses or drove mechanical vehicle?
Many thanks : Janis.
